Hemobag® Case Report #2

This is a case report of a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) x 3 case on a 60 year old male. The Hemobag® autologous whole blood infusion of 1150 mL was returned in 10 minutes with no blood products given, and the patient left the ICU on Day #1.

This case represents yet another fibrinogen record for the Hemobag®. Of particular note was the 300% increase in Factor 7 assay activity level (73% in a sample drawn from the patient compared to 223% in the Hemobag® concentrated autologous whole blood).

The results were as follows for the Hemobag® autologous whole blood infusion end product (SI units in brackets):

  • Platelet count: 430 x 103/mm3 (430 x 109/L)
  • Fibrinogen: 972 mg/dL (9.72 g/L)
  • Hct: 56% (0.56)
  • Total Protein: 13.6 g/dL (136 g/L)
  • Albumin: 5.7 g/dL (57 g/L)
  • Factor VII assay: 223%

The graphs below show some of the changes in blood and protein parameters* between the patient's blood sample drawn from the patient during surgery prior to receiving autologous blood, and the autologous whole blood drawn from the Hemobag® before being re-infused:
